I hear that harvesting bamboo has no effect on the earth, so it is good for flooring. Right? -Sandra

A Well, I wouldn’t say “no effect,” but certainly the green building industry has developed some of the most exciting products I’ve seen in a long time. Many of the green materials are not only better for the environment, but they look and feel better too. This may be especially true when it comes to flooring. Q In your last issue, greenlight readers offered up some great alternatives to plastic shopping bags. But what do you use for disposing of household trash, kitty litter or cleaning up after your dog? -Bob

A Despite the growing popularity of cloth shopping bags, we will still want and need things that behave like plastics. Not many of us, I dare say, will venture forth on that walk with Fido with a reusable container in hand!
